Who is Conservation South Luangwa (CSL)?
Since 2003, CSL has been working on the frontline of wildlife conservation and human-wildlife conflict mitigation in the South Luangwa Valley, Zambia.
Under the leadership of Rachel McRobb and Benson Kanyembo (2019 Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award winner), CSL has grown into an internationally recognised conservation organisation employing 137 people. CSL is dedicated to three main areas of focus:
• Anti-poaching law enforcement (wildlife rangers, aerial surveillance and K9 Unit).
• Wildlife rescue and community veterinary outreach.
• Human-wildlife coexistence programmes, including mitigation fences and promoting
alternative cash crops.
Conservation South Luangwa's K9 Unit
10 year anniversary • 2024
A decade ago, CSL established Zambia’s first conservation K9 Unit in partnership with Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife and supported by Working Dogs for Conservation.
This specialised team, which consists of five dogs and nine handlers, is dedicated to detecting illegal wildlife products and tracking wildlife crime suspects.

wildlife conservation - south luangwa
The illegal wildlife trade is a major threat to many species in South Luangwa. With your support, you can help CSL’s extraordinary dogs and their handlers to intercept trafficked wildlife products before they reach the black market.
These dogs are essential allies in the fight against poaching and we hope that they will continue to play a vital role in the protection of wildlife and habitats in Zambia long into the future.
