Kuba cloth was one of the first artefacts to be brought from central Africa to Europe. Abstractly ornamented raffia cloths from the Kuba kingdom in Zaire, now known as The Democratic Republic of Congo, were greatly admired and entered the curio cabinets and treasures of nobles and kings, as the finest products of African Artistry.

Today they still continue to exert a fascination for collectors, as well as inspire our artisans at Tribal Textiles. We took inspiration from the classic graphic shapes, to create this range.

While the design and technique are the same, each artisan has his own way of starching, making each piece unique in its own special way.

We translated these patterns onto our very own textiles with our classic batik method.

Set of 6 Napkins: 46 cm x 46cm -or- Approx. 18" x 18"

CARE

Made from 100% GMO-free cotton fabric sourced in Africa.
Each piece can vary slightly due to its handcrafted nature.
Hand wash cold or machine wash on a gentle cycle, maximum 30 degrees Celsius. No tumble-dry.
Iron on the reverse side with a low-temperature setting.
This set is bundled together with locally hand-made twine and a decorative palm shell clasp. (Due to customs restrictions, orders bound for Australia will be shipped without the twine and wooden clasp.)

IMPACT

Tribal Textiles works to create a sustainable impact through creativity and craftsmanship. Each of our one-of-a-kind textiles is hand-painted by local artisans in South Luangwa, Zambia. We go beyond fair wages, reinvesting 5% in community-strengthening initiatives, and supporting local wildlife conservation.

We use 100% GMO-Free cotton, sourced from our fabric from our nearest fabric manufacturer in Africa to reduce our carbon footprint

Community Impact

Beyond creating employment in an area where jobs are scarce, we support our local school Malimba and also Hanaha orphanage.

Environmentally Friendly Paint

We use water-based, non-hazardous and non-toxic paints that are safe for both people and the environment.

Conservation Impact

We are fortunate to have conservation programs such as ZCP [Zambian Carnivore Program] and CSL [Conservation South Luangwa] who we continuously donate a portion of our sales to.
