The Luangwa Artisan Collective is a group of 43 independent artisans based in the Luangwa Valley.
What began with 15 artisans and a free-market stall at Tribal Textiles has grown into a vibrant community. The Luangwa artisan Collective offers a platform for artisans to sell their handcrafted goods, with support in merchandising and business skills from Tribal Textiles.
Today, the collective creates lodge decor orders and sells products online, in the Tribal Textiles shop, and through their independent market stall next door.
To date, the artisans have earned $43,313, directly supporting their livelihoods and creative growth.
Sustainable Income
From weavers and wood carvers to artists and metalsmiths, the Luangwa Artisan Collective is made up of independent and talented master artisans. Based in South Luangwa, where jobs are scarce, they are dedicated to improving their skills to make a living from their art and passion.
We have been able to connect the local artisans to high-end lodges around Zambia to create stunning decor, as photographed! - This is Kafunta Lodge in Zambia.
What Do We Support Our Artisans?
We train those local artists in product development and business skills such as merchandising, accounting and pricing. We work with them to create beautiful products and give them access to local and international wholesale markets.
We built for them an all-weather work and market place on Tribal Textiles ground, where they can sell to visitors.
A Force For Change And Sustainable Brilliance
Our Artisans
Through the Luangwa Artisan Collective project, South Luangwa has become a Centre of Craft Excellence and Innovation in Zambia.
We believe that the traditions, heritage and crafts of artisans should be kept alive. The cultural value of these products is as important as their beauty.
From intricately woven decorative wall art to handcarved Kunda masks, the artisans keep skills passed down through generations alive.
"Before, people thought our art had no direction, but now they see the power of art. I make a living because of my skills and I am now regarded as someone in the community." - MWAMBA KASONDE, CARVER.
