We spent several happy hours in the middle of the day painting and decorating our own cushion covers on an ‘art safari’ at Tribal Textiles. The staff were really helpful and the atmosphere was fun: monkeys scampering across the roof, Zambian music playing and real artisans (as opposed to us) working all around us creating wonderful products. The pieces we produced were seen and presented to us as part of the deal. Good value and lots of fun and a great break from drive safaris.

Make sure you take time to go to the main store on the way to the airport so you can see how the pillow covers, table linens, bed spreads etc are made. It’s truly interesting to see and hear about the process, takes hand made to a whole new level ... I was so impressed that I went back in and bought more! They have an online store, but it has only a fraction of what’s available in person but you can get a sense of it before you arrive in the country. Each piece is unique, even if it’s the same design.

Impressive community development initiative, producing high quality textile products. Fascinating to see the local artists and production people in action. Wonderful philosophy on a blackboard in the sewing room says it all about how the organisation operates.
The products are original and very attractive.
Don’t miss this place, and do support the very worthwhile initiative, employing and training local people in a sustainable and creative way.

If you like textiles this is for you. Tour illustrating the printing method all by hand except the heating process to stabilize the colours. Textile medium is on quality wearable & furnishing cottons.Interesting for all ages and not too time consuming. Friendly staff and comfortable area to have a coffee that is availble to buy.

I wanted unique and I got it! I purchased napkins, a long runner and another runner to hang on the wall.
The fabrics are perfect for wall hanging, they are thick cotton. Out of all the 'african' art i saw in my travels this was the best quality i found

If you're staying anywhere near Mfuwe please come here to buy your souvenirs. The business trains and employs local people and supports much needed community projects. Plus their products are beautifully designed and top quality.

Tribal Textiles is located near Mfuwe Airport, and is worthwhile stop both to see the artisans at work, and to buy some products. While the prices are geared towards tourist, the quality is much higher than you get from other shops, and the money goes back to the community. They offer a free tour of the workshop which is interesting, and there is a nice little canteen with tasty snacks and refreshments. The store takes credit cards, which make it easy to shop as well.

I have my order! And I do love the pillow covers! Our daughter spent 2 1/2 years in Zambia, near Mansa, with the American Peace Corps. We visited in 2013 and stayed some time with her in her village. Tribal Textiles create a huge range of beautiful, locally made, textile products. I visited the shop and workshop (where you can see the creation process) after visiting South Luangwa National Park. It is the perfect place to find gifts for friends and family after experiencing the African bush! My mum was very pleased with the cushion covers I bought her from the shop so pleased, in fact, she ordered more things from their website!
